A Prayer for Hope (When You Have Run Out)
Hope is not always a feeling. Sometimes it is a decision to keep waking up. This prayer is for the season when you cannot find any and cannot say why.
The prayer
Lord Jesus,
I do not have hope tonight, and I am tired of pretending I do.
You said your mercies are new every morning. Send them again tomorrow, for me.
If the door I am waiting on is not going to open, close it kindly.
If it is going to open, hold me steady until it does.
Do not let me go under before you get here.
Amen.
The verse behind it
It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
When to say it
- The morning after the bad news.
- The week you cannot tell anyone yet.
- The month when nothing has moved.
