Aiden is a modern spelling of the Irish Aidan, from the Gaelic Aodhán, a diminutive of Aodh ("fire"). It reads as "little fire". Anglicised widely in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
Aiden in the Bible
No Aiden in the Bible. The name is best known from the 7th-century Irish saint Aidan of Lindisfarne, who evangelised northern England. The Bible loves the image of fire: the burning bush that did not consume, the pillar of fire that led Israel by night, the tongues of fire on Pentecost.
