Where the name comes from
Ethan is Hebrew (Eitan), from a root meaning "firm", "strong" or "enduring". It is often given as "strong" or "long-lasting". Israel still uses it as an ordinary given name.
Ethan in the Bible
Ethan the Ezrahite is named in 1 Kings 4 among the wisest of Solomon's day, and Psalm 89 is attributed to him. Another Ethan, a Levite, is one of the temple singers.
