Where the name comes from
Isabella is the Italian and Spanish elaboration of Isabel, itself a medieval form of Elizabeth. Elizabeth comes from the Hebrew Elisheba, from El (God) and sheba (oath, or seven, the number of the covenant). It reads as "my God is my oath" or "my God is abundance".
Isabella in the Bible
In the Bible, Elizabeth (Elisheba) is Aaron's wife in the Old Testament, and in the New Testament she is the mother of John the Baptist and cousin of Mary. She is the woman who recognized the Lord in Mary's womb - one of the first to see Jesus, before he was born.
