A Prayer of Gratitude (For a Day That Went Well)
We are quick to pray when things go wrong. We forget to pray when they go right. This prayer is for the day the news was good, or the season closed better than you thought it would.
The prayer
Lord Jesus,
today went well, and I don't want to move on without saying thank you.
Thank you for the diagnosis that came back clean.
Thank you for the person who said yes.
Thank you for the ordinary meal at an ordinary table with people I love.
Keep me from forgetting who gave me this the next time it gets hard.
Let the people who are still waiting for good news wait with hope.
Amen.
The verse behind it
Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
When to say it
- On the drive home from the appointment that went right.
- At the family dinner where nobody is missing this year.
- Before you fall asleep on a day that went as well as it could have.
Send it as a film
