A Prayer for Protection (For Someone You Love Who Is Far From You)
For a child at college, a spouse on the road, a friend in a country you cannot get to. This prayer is short enough to say every morning, and honest enough for the nights you cannot sleep.
The prayer
Lord Jesus,
[name] is far from me tonight, but they are not far from you.
Set your angels around them. Cover the way in front of them and the way behind.
Keep them from harm they can see, and from harm they will not see coming.
Keep the ones travelling with them honest, and the ones they trust worthy of it.
Bring them home to me, or come and be their home while they are away.
Amen.
The verse behind it
For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
When to say it
- The morning they leave, and every morning until they are back.
- In the moment the plane takes off.
- When their message has not come at the time it should have.
