A Prayer for Healing (to Say for Someone Who Is Sick)
Some prayers are for a person who is sick. This one is short enough to say in a hospital room, in a car after a phone call, or under your breath in the pew. Read it slowly. Put their name where the prayer says "your servant".
The prayer
Lord Jesus,
you know [name] by name.
You know what is broken in their body, and what is heavy in their heart.
Come near to them tonight.
Give the doctors clear eyes and steady hands.
Give their family courage that lasts through the waiting.
If it is your will, heal them. If it is not, hold them, and let them feel it.
Do not let them be alone in this.
We ask in your name. Amen.
The verse behind it
Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up.
When to say it
- Before you leave for the hospital. Once by yourself; once with the family if they will.
- When the group chat is quiet at 3 a.m. Put their name in it and pray it once.
- When the doctor calls. Even one line of it is a prayer.
- In the car on the way home. For yourself, too.
