Where the name comes from
Amelia is a Latinised form of Amalia, from the Germanic amal, "work" or "labour". Sometimes confused with Emilia, which is a different name from Latin Aemilius. The two have converged in common use, but their roots are distinct.
Amelia in the Bible
No Amelia in the Bible. The word behind the name - work, effort - appears throughout Scripture as a good and holy thing: Colossians 3 tells us to work as if for the Lord, 1 Thessalonians 1 remembers a church's "work of faith and labour of love".
