Ezra in the Bible
Ezra was a priest and scribe who led a group of exiles home from Babylon to Jerusalem about five centuries before Christ. The Bible says he "had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach". When the people gathered in Jerusalem, he read God's law aloud to them, and they answered "Amen, Amen". Some sites call him a prophet; the Bible calls him a priest and a scribe.
