A Prayer for Courage (Before Something Hard)
Some mornings you already know how the day will go and you would rather not have it. This prayer is for the walk from the car to the door.
The prayer
Lord Jesus,
today is one of the hard ones, and I would rather it were not.
You told your people over and over "Be not afraid". Say it to me now.
Steady my voice for the conversation I do not want to have.
Steady my hands for the work I have been putting off.
Steady my heart for the room I am about to walk into.
Go with me. Amen.

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

- In the car before the meeting.
- In the hospital elevator.
- On the way to the funeral.
- Before you send the text you have written and unwritten.
