Where the name comes from
Andrew is from the Greek Andreas, from anēr / andros, "man", giving a reading of "manly" or "of a man". The Greek name was already in use in the Jewish world of the first century, which is why an apostle in Galilee is called Andrew rather than a Hebrew name.
Andrew in the Bible
Andrew is one of the twelve apostles of Jesus, the brother of Simon Peter, and the first disciple John's Gospel names. He is the one who brings his brother to Jesus, and later brings the boy with the five loaves.
He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. And he brought him to Jesus.
