Where the name comes from
Adam is Hebrew (adam), the same word Genesis uses for "man" and for the ground he was drawn from (adamah). It is one of the oldest, plainest names in the Bible: a person made of the earth God gave them.
Adam in the Bible
Adam is the first human in Genesis. God forms him from the dust, breathes into him, and gives him work in the garden. The name is used both for him and, in some passages, for humankind as a whole.
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
