A Prayer Before Surgery (For the Morning of the Operation)
A surgery day is a heavy one - for the person going in, and for everyone who loves them. This prayer is short enough to say in the hall before they are wheeled away.
The prayer
Lord Jesus,
[name] is going into surgery today, and we are asking you to go in with them.
Steady the hands of every doctor and nurse in that room.
Guard their body while they are asleep.
Give their family a peace that is not from us.
Bring them out on the other side, and let their first breath after this be a thankful one.
If there is complication, be there for it. If there is joy, share it with us.
Amen.

When to say it
- At the pre-op bedside, before they are wheeled away.
- In the waiting room while it is happening.
- In the parking lot before you drive home to sleep and come back tomorrow.
