Michael is Hebrew (Mikha'el), from mi, "who", ke, "like", and El, one of the names of God. It reads as a question: "Who is like God?" - an answer of its own.
Michael in the Bible
Michael is named in Daniel and in the New Testament book of Jude as an archangel, who stands as a defender of God's people. He is the one who disputes with the devil in Jude 9, and who leads the heavenly army in Revelation 12.
And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people.
