Where the name comes from
Aaron is Hebrew (Aharon), and its meaning is uncertain. Most old lexicons connect it with "har", mountain, and give a reading like "high mountain" or "mountain of strength"; others link it to a pre-Hebrew root the Bible does not explain. Neither reading is proven. The Bible itself does not pause to define the name.
Aaron in the Bible
The Bible's Aaron is Moses's elder brother and Israel's first high priest. He spoke for Moses before Pharaoh when Moses said he was slow of speech, held up his brother's arms in battle, and blessed the people in the priestly blessing of Numbers 6.
The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
